Book Review: Called to Worship

calledtoworship.coverCalled to Worship is a wonderful resource to me. While it is an easy read, I find it even more valuable as a reference, resource, and continuing reminder for the prominence that worship plays in our relationship with God. While I fancy myself a “creative” and “free” worshipper, I am more prone to slip into leader and task mode as I plough through my day. Called to Worship serves as a timely reminder that my first, and most important, task is the worshipping relationship toward my Lord and King.

I appreciate the style and order in which the book was written, focusing on tradition and experience serves as a grounding point and reference to our call…it helps (it helps me) find my place in the people of God. To this end, I would love to have seen more shared about the different expressions of worship as the church has progressed through the last couple thousand years; perhaps this might be a follow up volume at a later date.

I also enjoyed the summary, notes, and bibliography. The book was well documented and annotated for purposes of additional research and further education. I enjoyed the book and am sure that I will glean additional insight from it as I call on its resources in the future.
