There is a reason Max Lucado is one of the most prolific and best-selling authors of our day; he is a wonderful story teller. I am so very glad he is telling kingdom sized stories. OutLive Your Life is a kingdom-sized story, and in it Max Lucado reminds us that we are not only created by God in His image (Genesis 1:27), but we are also created to live an incredible life that reflects Him to the world (Eph. 2:10).
OutLive Your Life is a book of stories, situations, and circumstances that call each of us to live the life God intended for us. Each and every moment of our life can be lived as a facet and reflection of the wonderful Creator who is Mercy, Love, and Grace. Pastor Max reminds the reader of this truth from passages of the Bible and he shares inspiration from the stories of people who live among us today. He also reminds us that God has given us everything we need to accomplish His mission in this very generation. I was reminded even this morning in a quote from a prayer book I am reading through; “There is the promise throughout Scripture that God has created an economy in which there is enough, that God has not created a world of scarcity with too many people or too little stuff. As Gandhi said, ‘There is enough for everyone’s need but not enough for everyone’s greed.'”
I loved the first story of the book with the retelling of the Fable: Finding Father Benjamin… I won’t retell it here, but the impact of Christianity on the world is not only a mark in the annals of history; the impact of Christianity on the world can be lived and felt in the world today as much as it was in the first century. The only thing preventing this from becoming reality is our own reluctance to OutLive Our Lives. This book is challenging and inspiring. I can recommend it for private reading and devotion or for group studies. There has been a study and discussion guide included at the end of the book to help facilitate conversation and action. This book comes highly recommended.
