I received a new book from Multnomah for review and must admit that it has been the most difficult for me to engage in to date. The reason for my lack of engagement is no fault of the book, but entirely the fault of my being generationally out of touch with the intended audience, 12-20-somethings of today (at least that is who I think the intended audience is).
For Young Men Only, written by Jeff Feldhahn & Eric Rice with Shaunti Feldhahn (available for purchase here) is an honest approach to answering some of the “unasked questions” and/or “mythbusting” some of the common misconceptions about the thinking of the female mind…at least the mind of young women.
The book is written from the Christian perspective and is not a meant to be a primer on sex, although there is a chapter that addresses the topic. For parents, you will be glad to know that the language and nature of the conversation from the “sex chapter” is relevant, respectable, and readable.
I cannot say for sure, but I think the conversation questions (at the end of the book) might be very good for a young men’s youth group. As I said earlier, I do not know how generationally connected I am to the audience. I plan to conduct a follow up review of the book after I present it to my 14 year old son and get his opinion. I think this will be a fairer representation of the target audience and will provide a more accurate review of the book.
